Local retired Nurse Consultant, Garry Swann, starred in the Labour Party's national political broadcast this week.

Garry, who was winner of the NHS Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024, worked for the NHS for 42 years becoming clinical director for advanced practice.

His wife, Kirsti, has been instrumental in extending nursing roles nationally whilst working in her field of Paediatric Emergency Medicine during her 37 years committed to the NHS.

They have lived in Kenilworth for the last 14 years.

During the broadcast Garry said: "Our healthcare system is basically a reflection of society, so if you've got a stressed society, you've got a stressed healthcare system."

Garry and his dog, Ted, were filmed in their Kenilworth home for the broadcast which went out on Wednesday 9 April.

"I was delighted to be asked to contribute" said Garry, who returned to the NHS and A&E during the COVID pandemic.

"Caring for patients has been the great privilege of my life."
