A Kenilworth petrol station could have six new electric charging points and a canopy built if plans are approved.

A scheme to create the EV charging zone at the Shell garage on Warwick Road has been submitted to Warwick District Council by Motor Fuel Group.

The application says the plans will help meet the growing need for EV infrastructure and will "enhance the existing offer at the service station, without compromising the efficient operation of the facility".

The application added: "In terms of design, the proposed EV charging area has been carefully planned to positively integrate with the existing service station operation.

"The charging facility offers a modern design approach, which is uncluttered and fit for purpose."

If approved the charging points will be built on four parking spaces and will see a tree and LPG compound removed to make space.

However, the plans have already seen 10 objections received from members of the public.

One objection said the scheme was "just not acceptable and will have a hugely detrimental effect on my family".

"I will be left with a towering three-metre high canopy overlooking my garden and kitchen," they said.

"Worse still, the canopy is illuminated on the roof which will shine light directly into my house through five directly facing windows.

"It will also put somewhere between 30 - 50 per cent of my garden lengthways in shadow (when not illuminated) and no doubt finish off my lawn."
