A number of houses along Kenilworth's Farmer Ward Road remain without internet and phone reception after a telegraph pole was brought down in a crash last week.

A 47-year-old man from Kenilworth was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after the incident on August 14 where the pole near the junction with Thornby Avenue was felled.

Since then a number of bungalows and houses have been left without network connection, with the pole still to be replaced.

Local councillor Richard Dickson has visited a number of local residents, and said the issue needs to be resolved sooner than the predicted September 2 date stated by Openreach.

"Residents' lives are being seriously disrupted by the loss of their phone line for more than one week already," he said to Nub News.

"I've been in contact with Openreach several times in the past few days to remind them that residents are trusting that this problem is sorted ultrafast."

Openreach said the repair works were taking longer than expected, but did not give a timeline for the repair.

"We're in the process of getting this pole replaced, which is taking a little longer than we'd originally hoped," a spokesperson told Nub News.

"We understand how disruptive it is to be without broadband so we're also looking to see if any form of temporary service is possible.

"Replacing a pole requires specialist teams and equipment and we'll be carrying out this work as quickly as possible, using traffic management to keep our engineers safe."
