Local author Elizabeth L. Dripping has this week released her sixth book for children, 'Bats about Halloween' in time for the end of October festival.

This edition is the latest in Elizabeth's series following 'The Amazing Adventures of Granny Tick-Tock, Poppy and Sam,' and their talking frog mascot.

All of the volumes have been set in different areas across Warwickshire, including Kenilworth, Stratford and Warwick Castle. The latest is no different as the children return to Granny Tick-Tock's cottage in Kenilworth.

A self-published author, Elizabeth first thought about producing a book in 2011, as a means of focusing her artistic work.

"It was just that I love to paint," she says, "if you give someone a picture of a flower that's all very nice, but I thought if I make a book then there is a project to focus on."

Writing the stories, and painting every single picture herself, almost a decade on from the first edition, her picture book series is going stronger than ever and still engages Elizabeth herself.

"I learn a bit more with every book that I do, I think they look more professional with every one that I publish."

All the stories have seen the children looking after the environment, from clearing rubbish in the River Avon in 'Stratford-Upon-Avon: A Brilliant Day Out,' to this latest edition which sees Poppy and Sam tell the police about some naughty big boys who are smashing halloween pumpkins.

In Bats About Halloween the children also nurture a fox cub with a thorn stuck in its foot, and then learn all about the bats flying over Granny Tick Tock's cottage from the castle.

"The books are all about helping the animals and caring for the local area," says Elizabeth.

Elizabeth has taken great time to research her artwork, to make sure that the pictures are accurate for the children reading. Very detailed drawings of both fruit bats and pipis strille bats are featured in book six.

Care for the area you live in is not just confined to the pages however. Once all of her costs are covered, she donates the rest of the money to the Friends of Abbey Fields.

Elizabeth has been a member of the community group for some time, helping with litter picking and maintaining the park for everybody to enjoy.

"Hopefully it gives even a little bit of promotion for them."

If you would like to purchase a copy of 'Bats About Halloween' it is available from The Farthing Gallery, Kenilworth Books, the Information Centre in Warwick, JW Books in Stratford, and Lighthorn Pavillion Cafe.
