The lockdown period has inspired many in Kenilworth and across the country to get creative, and try something new, nowhere is this more apparent than at the Kenilworth Allotment Tenants' Association (KATA) where they have just released their very own podcast.

Hosted by Nick Wood, the 'KATApod' podcast is taking a seasonal approach, with at least four episodes being produced each year.

The first episode 'Chicks n rasps' is already available, and features 'top tips' for jobs on your allotment, allotment holders talking about their chickens, and how you can get involved volunteering at the allotment's own shop.

Nick, who runs the allotment's website, first had the idea of recording after first hearing a podcast whilst on a long walk a few weeks ago.

"As I was walking, I was think I could do that, and I like that," said Nick, "so I looked it up, and its quite straight forward to do it yourself.

"I just thought it would be a good way to talk about people, and get interesting stories about people that others might not be aware of."

The association own three sites across the town, Beehive Hill, Odibourne, and Spring Lane. The chickens featured in episode one live on the latter site.

"I thought that would make a really nice story, the owners are such lovely people, and I thought they would sound really good on the pod."

Nick edits the podcast using Anchor and Ferrite, and is quickly learning the ropes, "its just something that I can do for the allotments, using my skillset, and contribute in that way," he says.

The second episode is already available, and follows the seasonal theme. It focuses on the subject of apples.

"Its apple time, and there are lots of nice things going on at the allotments now, with apple pressing going on at the allotments, the tenants come together and press their apples and share the juice."

Whilst KATApod will hope to offer guidance to allotment holders, as well as featuring personal stories and individuals, Nick hopes that there will be something there for everyone.

"I am mainly doing it for the allotment holders, its just a bit of fun for them really. Ideally I'd like people to come to me with ideas and hopefully to be on the podcast.

"But then anybody who stumbles across it, I hope that they will still enjoy it. You never know who is going to hear something and get something from it."
