HS2 restoration scheme for Kenilworth farm pulled before decision is made
By James Smith 19th Mar 2026
An application for a "site restoration scheme" on land around the HS2 line near Kenilworth has been pulled.
In October last year the high speed rail developer submitted a scheme to Warwick District Council to return the land at Kingswood Farmhouse, Dalehouse Lane to how it looked before construction began.
The application said HS2 took over the site in July 2019.
The HS2 Act says it must have a plan in place to restore any land temporarily seized once it is used.
A report submitted to the council said the landowner had agreed to the restoration scheme, but the application has now been pulled.
No objections had been made and no reason for its withdrawal has been published on the council website.
"The land was previously used for equine purposes as part of a former riding school," the application said.
"When taken, the land was lightly vegetated and used for livestock grazing."
HS2 had Cadent Gas Ltd install a gas main across the site.
Contractors BBV did not actually undertake any major works there.
The restoration would have seen all the fencing removed, potholes fixed and the area reseeded.
Dalehouse Lane is due to close for 14 months in April so the new bridge to carry the road over the new rail line can be installed.
HS2 has confirmed it will close from Tuesday 7 April 2026 until Monday 7 June 2027.
