HS2 cutting on edge of Kenilworth will pass within 20 metres of park homes
Plans for a 530 metre-long cutting for HS2 which will be just 20 metres behind a park home estate have been revealed.
The high speed rail developer has submitted a planning application to Warwick District Council for 'Bockenden Cutting' which will connect to the southern end of the Burton Green 'cut and cover' tunnel.
Plans show the cutting - which runs roughly parallel to Red Lane - will come within touching distance of Broadwell Wood Residential Park.
The development will also see a 172-metre long retaining wall which will be 3.5 metres high.
The cutting - already roughly created by works in the area - will also see public footpath W168 realigned and the Kenilworth Greenway temporarily rerouted during construction.
"Bockenden Cutting will carry the HS2 rail track and will serve as noise screening for nearby residential receptors," the plans state.
"It will comprise a cutting and landscape bunds."
The HS2 Act decrees the cutting will be created, with the local authority only able to comment on certain design elements.
The application added: "Bockenden Cutting will deliver landscape planting and noise mitigation to minimise the impact to the surrounding area, local amenity and character.
"The proposed works consider engineering requirements whilst also taking into account the surrounding context where possible."
