A historical inaccuracy is set to be fixed on one of the new wayfinding posts around Kenilworth.

Plans to install 12 new signposts around the town were signed off in April, with Kenilworth Town Council (KTC) now having installed the first set.

The signs include a mix of finger posts as well as monolith boards with facts about the history of the town.

However, speaking at last week's KTC meeting, Cllr James Kennedy told councillors one of the boards now needs to be corrected.

"Two outstanding issues are that there is a historical error on one of the monoliths on Castle Road by the ford," the council leader said.

"Keen historians have pointed out that it was in fact King Henry III who presided over the siege of Kenilworth, not King Henry I as stated on the monolith.

"We have advised that the clerk should contact the installers and get that corrected.

"And secondly one of the finger posts on Station Road by Alfie Grimshaw was moved to a different location because they discovered utilities, and now retrospective planning permission will need to be applied for."

The council is now working on the second phase of the project, with more signposts set to be installed but in more "complicated" locations.

KTC had already been told that a new signpost next to the ford in Abbey Fields could set it back £2,000.

And the council is also having to wait for a decision on the future of the new swimming pools in Abbey Fields before any more signs in the area are commissioned.
