Modern 'wayfinding' signs can now be installed across Kenilworth after plans were signed off by Warwick District Council.

Following months of work, Kenilworth Town Council submitted a planning application to install 12 new signposts to key spots across the town centre.

Plans show some of the signs will be near the station, while others are set to be placed around the perimeter of Abbey Fields.

The application, submitted to WDC, said the project aims to connect the old and new parts of the town "through a unified family of signs" which will provide "clear and precise information to visitors".

As part of the scheme the current "out of date" fingerpost signs would be removed to "help declutter the streetscape".

"The impact is to introduce new wayfinding totems and posts into the public realm, to aid with navigation around the town," the application said.

"By highlighting key destinations and showing that these are all within walking distance will encourage visitors to stay longer and explore further."

The town council has also recently completed a project to replace all the 'welcome to Kenilworth' signs at the perimeter of the town.

Approving the application for the wayfinding signs, a district council report said: "The proposed signage is considered to be of a scale, frequency and design that is in keeping with the surrounding local area and is considered to be an improvement over and above the existing signs.

"The proposed signage is larger in scale as the totem provides way finding information to mark key points of interest within walking distance of the signs. However this is considered necessary in order to display the relevant information.

"The frequency and design of the signage is considered to be similar to the existing signage."
