Council planners have given the green light to the designs for another HS2 cutting around Kenilworth.

The 850-metre-long channel will carry the new rail line parallel to the Kenilworth Greenwell.

The 'Roughknowles Wood Cutting' will be 13.6 metres deep at its deepest point.

Works will also see an access strip created and public footpath W167 diverted.

"Roughknowles Wood Cutting is required in this location to carry the HS2 alignment between Broadwells Embankment and Crackley Wood Embankment," the application said.

"The proposed earthworks have been carefully considered in the design process to minimise the visual prominence of the works and to minimise impacts on the landscape and nearby receptors.

"Minor earthworks are also required to form the maintenance access strips, vehicular access, footpath W167 diversion."

The new Crackley Wood overbridge will carry Crackley Lane over the crossing.

The HS2 Act decreed the cutting would be created at some point, with HS2 only able to comment on certain elements of the design.
