Fresh appeal for information after Warwickshire Pride targeted by vandals
Police have renewed calls for information after the Warwickshire Pride event in August was vandalised yet again.
Organisers said the decorations in Leamington Spa were targeted on Friday 16 August, before the march and festivities got underway on the Saturday.
The community event had also been vandalised the year before.
And today (October 29) Warwickshire Police has released a renewed appeal for information.
"Officers are continuing to investigate an incident of criminal damage in Leamington in August," the appeal said.
"As part of this, they are now appealing for information from the public.
"Between 4pm and 11.39pm on Friday 16 August, officers on patrol noticed that Pride flags Pump Room Gardens had been removed and a gazebo pulled down.
"The flags were found and returned - however some other flags hard been burnt and two gazebos had been found to have been damaged beyond repair by having their frames broken apart."
Following the incident in August, Pride organisers said they may have to hire security in the coming years.
"It is really s*** you know," Warwickshire Pride chair Daniel Browne said in a video on social media.
"We are a very small team of volunteers, we work all year round to put on this Pride event.
"We are a small charity with limited funds and resources.
"When stuff like this happens it is really disheartening and it really makes me quite angry."
Despite the vandalism, the event was a big success with hundreds of supporters heading to the town centre throughout the day and for the after parties across Leamington.
