Free exhibition celebrating 125 years of outdoor swimming in Kenilworth opens on Warwick Road

By James Smith 5th Aug 2021

A free gallery celebrating 125 years of outdoor swimming in Kenilworth has opened in the old 'Poundland' unit on Warwick Road.

Organised by the Lido Campaign Group and Kenilworth Arts Festival, the celebration of outdoor swimming in the town opened yesterday (Monday, 31 May) and will be available until Sunday, 13 June.

The exhibition comprises of photographs, memorabilia, and paintings sent in by residents and charts the history of the lido in Abbey Fields since its opening in 1896.

The lido group has said: "So much has happened over these 125 years, so many memories captured, so many stories told and so many happy occasions celebrated.

"The exhibition shows the history and reflections of the enjoyment and importance of the Lido to the town."

The exhibition comes as the latest in a number of galleries installed in the empty shop front. Already in 2021 the unit has seen a selection of paintings of Kenilworth Castle, a series of works entitled 'Secret Views of Kenilworth' and two different sets of submissions from members of Kenilworth Artists.
