The first community event of 2021 in Kenilworth is now available, as artists from across the town have come together to exhibit their own interpretations of the same photograph
A photograph of Kenilworth Castle was posted in the Facebook community group 'Kenilworth Vibes' back in September with the hope that a local artist would recreate the image on canvas.
Such was the wealth of interest in the post, local artist Nicola Bagga decided to organise an exhibition for local creatives to each present their work.
Originally planned to be held in the Old Bakery on High Street, the exhibition has been moved to the unused 'Poundland' unit on Warwick Road to allow the event to take place during the third national lockdown.
16 different artists have offered their interpretations of the photograph, and some of their works are available for purchase.
Speaking to Nub News Nicola said: "We have a community of very talented people who have really pulled together over the last year to lift everyone's spirits, share their work and make friends.
"I thought an exhibition of our towns most beloved architectural icon from a photo taken in the middle of the pandemic would be the perfect way to showcase the towns talent and show the community how proud we are of everyone in it."
Natalie Thurman, of Natalie Thurman Art and Photography, was commissioned for the accompanying work from the original photograph.
The commission, at 121 x 90cm was the largest landscape Natalie had painted in acrylic, so she decided to do a smaller version first. This first edition can now be seen in the exhibition.
Speaking to Nub News Natalie said: "I appreciate the support of my fellow artists, particularly as I am new to this art community.
"As you can see from the display what a wonderful range of interpretations of the same photo and as each of us have our own unique styles, there is something that will relate to everybody's individual tastes.
"We all have, as well as the art, in common our love and affection for Kenilworth Castle and the Kenilworth community. We unite as artists continuing to work in lockdown. We appreciate this town's support."
The images will remain in the shop front for the rest of the month.
