A former on-call firefighter from Kenilworth has raised over £2,000 in memory of the former Warwickshire Chief Fire Officer.

Over the past two weeks Alison Insley has ridden 32 miles a day on a static bicycle on her drive – taking over three and a half hours per day.

Alison has been raising money for The Fire Fighters Charity in the memory of Kieran Amos who died in November 2021, shortly after retiring following a 32-year career in the fire service.

Having completed the challenge on Saturday Alison said: "I did enjoy it I have to say, but it was obviously hard as well.

"Usually I am out and about on a bike seeing different things, but to sit on a static every day is quite a test!

"I really don't know how people do this as a regular thing at the gym."

Having had surgery on her shoulder just six weeks previously, Alison could only complete the fundraiser on her static bike, given to her by Kieran during the first national lockdown.

Whilst out on her drive every day she has received donations from strangers as well as words of encouragement.

"The support has been fantastic," she said.

"I did have a lot of people pass by who stopped and chatted, as well as neighbours.

"People brought me tea, coffee, cakes, chocolate, biscuits and even pasties."

When asked how she stayed motivated over the fortnight Alison said she knew what she was doing was "in the memory of a fantastic person, and in support of a fantastic charity."

Adding: "Kieran was with us for a very short time, he had only been with us for a couple of years but he had already made a big impact to people's lives.

"His whole energy and positivity was amazing.

"He was a gentleman and a gentle man. I have said it before, but he was so positive, very inspiring and always said to me 'be the best person that you can be'."

As she completed the challenge on Saturday around 40 friends and neighbours came to Alison's drive to celebrate with her.

They were also joined by Mayor of Kenilworth Cllr Peter Jones and deputy mayor Cllr Sam Cooke.

Alison had set a target of £3,232 for the fortnight, and has now tipped over the £2,000.

She has now raised over £10,000 over the course of the past two years for various causes.

"Obviously this is my fourth event in two years, so I never expected to raise that much [£3,232] but I still think £2,000 is great.

"I am really pleased with all the support and the donations, I'd like to say a big thank you to everybody.

"Every pedal was absolutely worth it, because people have been donating from my efforts."
