Almost all the plants have now been stripped from Talisman Square, as the March deadline set by developer Cobalt Estates has passed.

Volunteers from Friends of Talisman Square (FoTS) have worked hard over the past few weeks to relocate the greenery from the town centre car park, with the majority of it having now been rehomed.

The group has been supported with funding from Kenilworth Town Council, Kenilworth Lions and a number of businesses.

Plants have been moved to new planters on Station Road, by Abbey End Medical Centre, Kenilworth School and Abbey End Car Park.

"Friends of Talisman Square volunteers have worked tirelessly over the last month to remove plants from the community garden in Talisman Square," volunteers said.

"Sadly, this beautiful green space which until only a few weeks ago supported over 150 plant varieties is now almost empty but thankfully new planted areas have been created at Abbey Medical Centre, Kenilworth Station, Kenilworth School and along Station Road.

"Although dismantling the garden has been understandably disheartening the group have been encouraged to learn that there are many local community groups, schools and care homes who also want to improve or start their own gardens.

"The remaining plants will be available to dig up and take away over the weekend after which owners Cobalt Estates will be removing and disposing of whatever remains, before replanting.

"Collection will be on a first come first served basis and it would be much appreciated if anyone taking plants could let the team in Kenilworth Books know their intended new home as FoTS would love to keep track of just how far the positivity of their planting has been spread across Kenilworth."

FoTS has previously said the longer-term vision is to create a green urban corridor between Kenilworth Station and Warwick Road to welcome visitors and develop a biodiverse environment where both the community and nature will thrive.

Having had planning permission to redevelop the Talisman Square car park refused last year, Cobalt Estates said it had be advised to remove the planting so the square could not be listed an Asset of Community Value - which would make future development more complicated.
