Volunteers want to create 'green urban corridor' through Kenilworth with Talisman Square plants
A further £1,000 has been donated to the Friends of Talisman Square (FoTS) to help the rehome some of the under-threat plants from Kenilworth's town centre.
The group has continued to work on a plan having been told to undo its work around the town centre shops by developer Cobalt Estates.
And now FoTS is looking to create a "green urban corridor" in the centre of town.
Work to move much of the greenery from Talisman Square is already underway, with around 20 volunteers braving the wet weather on Sunday (March 10) to move some of the plants to the new Kenilworth School.
Kenilworth Town Council has already agreed to spend up to £3,500 on new planters and soil to provide a new space on Station Road for the flowers, as FoTS works to move them ahead of its deadline at the end of the month.
And now the group has announced it has been given a £1,000 donation from Kenilworth Lions to help with the relocation project.
"Friends of Talisman Square also learned this week that Kenilworth Lions have agreed to donate £1,000 towards the cost of commercial planters and also received a generous donation of compost made jointly by Steve McKernan of KWUK Keller Williams Estate Agency (Kenilworth) and Paul Warren - Branch Director of MKM Building Supplies," FoTS said.
Spokesman for Friends of Talisman Square group, Catherine Dallaway, was "pleased to point out" these donations will "effectively reduce the contribution needed from Kenilworth Town Council by almost two thirds".
The next stage of the plan will see volunteers establishing green community garden spaces in Station Road, Abbey Medical Centre and the Station Car Park.
Their longer-term vision is to create a green urban corridor between Kenilworth Station and Warwick Road to welcome visitors and develop a biodiverse environment where both the community and nature will thrive.
