Details for Kenilworth Remembrance services 2021 announced
The details of the Remembrance services in Kenilworth for 2021 have been announced by the Royal British Legion and Kenilworth Town Council.
Following its cancellation last year, the annual parade will return on Sunday, November 14, and there will also be a two minutes silence at the war memorial on Armistice Day itself.
The parade will see representatives of local scouts, guides and cadets join with members of the RBL at the Copper House Club on Park Road at 10.15 am on Sunday morning before processing down Albion Street to the memorial at the top of Abbey Fields.
Road closures will be in place for this.
Wreaths, which have been displayed in the empty 'hospice' shopfront in Abbey End, will then be placed around the memorial by 10.45am.
After the service the parade will return back towards the Copper House Club and salute the mayor en route.
As well as the service on Remembrance Sunday, there will also be a two minutes silence held by the memorial at 11am on Thursday, November 11 morning.
The memorial has also already been consecrated by the Reverend Stella Bailey and residents are encouraged to place crosses there in remembrance of lost family or friends.
2021 also marks the centenary of the Royal British Legion, with the Kenilworth branch being one of the founding members.
The poppy appeal is also well underway in Kenilworth, with collection points in Sainsbury's, Waitrose and Talisman Square.
Last year the poppy appeal raised over £16,500 despite the impact of the pandemic.
Residents are also encouraged to make sure that they are following social distancing guidelines and wearing masks where appropriate.
