An array of colourful banners and flags are set to appear on the streets of Kenilworth next week as the town prepares for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Warwick District Council said the decorations will be put up overnight to minimise disruption to businesses and residents.

And further decorations including bunting and billboards will be installed during the run up to the games which start on Thursday 28 July.

The announcement comes just weeks after it was revealed that the Queen's Baton Relay will pass through the town,

The baton will reach Kenilworth on Friday 22 July, where it will visit the castle before travelling to Warwick, and Whitnash Civic Centre and library, having visiting the north part of the county the day before.

Cllr Liam Bartlett, WDC portfolio holder for culture and tourism, said: "It's so exciting to see the final touches being put in place as we prepare to welcome thousands of athletes and spectators to the biggest and largest profile event our district has ever seen."

Councillors revealed in February that a £13,500 budget had been set for decorating the town, with Kenilworth Town Council contributing £5,000 to this.
