Covid-19 memorial to be unveiled in Kenilworth this week

A living wisteria sculpture is set to be unveiled in Kenilworth this week to honour and remember those who died as a result of the pandemic.

The memorial will be placed outside Jubilee House, Smalley Place during a short ceremony on Tuesday, May 24.

The chair and vice-chairman of Warwick District Council will join the Mayor of Kenilworth Cllr Sam Cooke on the day, and members of the public are invited to join in for the 4.30pm start.

The memorial if one of four to be unveiled across the district.

Warwick, Whitnash and Leamington Spa will also receive a statue, funded by WDC.

Kenilworth Town Council has previously criticised its district counterparts for not involving the town council in designing the memorial.

Latest Gov.UK data shows that 330 people have died from Covid-19 in Warwick district.

Across the UK 164,053 have died from Covid-19, up to Friday, May 6.
