This promise from Warwick District Council of more security at the former Sixth Form site in Kenilworth has been welcomed by Liberal Democrat councillors.

Concern about the Rouncil Lane site was raised by Cllr Kate Dickson at the last full council meeting, and came after a video appeared on social media of someone accessing the site and recording inside.

Since the council took vacant possession of the site in March 2024 the site has been secured with Heras fencing and padlocked. The fencing has been checked weekly to make sure it was intact.

The council has now agreed more regular security patrols and will put signage in place on the fencing. This means that, as well as reporting to the police, the security company can be contacted if necessary by anyone seeing anything suspicious.

Cllr Andrew Milton said: "We're grateful for the vigilance of local residents and particularly those who have raised issues with the council.

"I'm pleased that officers from WDC are taking the issue seriously and we'll continue to push the council's cabinet to provide them the support they need.

"It's imperative that the administration bring forward a public consultation on the plans for housing on the site without delay.

"Until that progresses there's a risk that the site will continue to be a magnet for anti-social behaviour."
