Town councillors have objected to plans to repaint the front of a popular Kenilworth café, saying the colour is not in keeping with the local area.
Time for Tea has applied for permission to repaint the windows and door frames at its venue on Castle Hill.
As a grade II listed building, Warwick District Council needs to sign off on the designs, but Kenilworth Town Council has objected to an application to repaint the woodwork black and white.
"We welcome the work being done to preserve this historic building," the town council's objection said.
"However, we would object to the change in colour of the window frames to black, unless the conservation officer is able to reassure us that this colour is appropriate for this building in the conservation area.
"The committee felt that this change in colour was not in keeping with the street scene."
The cafe - which says the frontage is "desperate of repair" - has since submitted updated designs for the refurb, with a lighter colour suggested.
"The impact of replacing the window frame colour and paint, will be to restore the appearance of the front of the property to something much smarter and cleaner looking," the application said.
"The current colour is a grey/green which has started to rot and chip away.
"We are not changing anything that will take away the historic nature of the property. The frames in the past have been green & red.
"The colour we are looking to change to will be matte black and will be applied to the outer frames."
Time for Tea is gearing up for the return of Castle Hill Fest over the bank holiday weekend.
The building the café is based from is currently on the market - but this will not affect the business, which is not for sale.
