A landfill site in Kenilworth which has informally been used by dog walkers for a number of years is set to be brought fully into public use.

After nearly two years of work tackling legal issues and red tape, Kenilworth Town Council (KTC) is moving forward with the plans for the land at Cherry Orchard.

A recent update said the land will be treated as "informal green space" and now the council is pressing ahead with the arrangement.

Speaking at the last KTC meeting, Cllr Mark Stevens said: “The signage is being updated to reflect the new legal status of the site, we are hoping it will be in place [soon].

"And the next part is the volunteering side - volunteers to help with the maintenance.

"A lot of people have expressed their interest. We are putting together a programme around that. First of all we need to get the word out and recruit volunteers."

Next steps will also see councillors present a report on the costs and office time required to look after the volunteer group.
