'Progress at last' on turning former Kenilworth landfill into public space

There has been "progress at last" on plans to bring a former Kenilworth landfill site into public use.
Kenilworth Town Council (KTC) has been pushing to bring the land at Cherry Orchard into formal use for nearly two years, with legal issues and red tape slowing the process.
But an update last week revealed a "very positive" meeting had been held with Warwickshire County Council, and the scheme is set to move forward.
"We asked about the legal status in terms of access to the Cherry Orchard site, for people walking their dogs etc," Cllr Mark Stevens said at last week's full KTC meeting.
"Basically what they have concluded is they are treating the site as an informal green space.
"There will be signage to all the entrances, it will recognise it is a closed landfill site, and what people are allowed to do.
"They don't want anyone setting a camp fire obviously!"

Town councillors revealed there is also ambition for the site to reach local wildlife status over time.
Meanwhile the county council was "very supportive" of a group of volunteers coming together to look after the site.
Despite being private land, Cherry Orchard has been used as a dog walking space for years.
The project was delayed as the council waited for a 'management plan' from its colleagues at Warwickshire County Council and Warwick District Council which actually own the site.
