Local homeowners may be eligible for a new grant being offered by Warwick District Council (WDC).

Private property residents in Warwick district that do not currently heat their homes using mains gas central heating can apply for funding to improve energy efficiency in their house.

The Green Homes Grant, funded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and in partnership with E.ON, aims to improve the energy efficiency of low income private households.

Cllr James Kennedy, portfolio holder for climate change said: "We recognise the importance of improving the energy efficiency of people's homes not only for the climate, but also for the difference it makes to energy bills.

"Now has never been a more important time to do this, especially as we head into the winter months."

Free improvements can be provided to all eligible households including:

  • Solar pv panels
  • Insulation
  • Smart heating controls
  • Air source heat pumps

However, not everyone can apply for this grant scheme - to be able to get the grant, you must cover all of the criteria below:

  • Own and live in your own home
  • Your gross household income is below £31,000 a year OR properties with certain eligible postcodes
  • Heat your home with alternative fuels other than gas (e.g. oil, liquid petroleum gas, coal, solid fuels or electricity)
  • Have an Energy Performance Certificate rating of D,E,F or G. A rating can be arranged by E.ON if they believe that your property is energy inefficient

As stated above, some properties with certain postcodes will automatically meet the income eligibility criteria, as part of an extra boost for households. Despite this, all other criteria must still be met to be eligible for the House Upgrade Grant.

Cllr Kennedy said: "If you're eligible then there's no cost to you, so I would encourage everyone eligible to get in touch and see what improvements can be made to your home to make it warm and affordable."

All applications are being made through Act On Energy's website, whilst instillations will be carried out by E.ON. Alternatively to clicking onto their webpage, call this number to express your interest: 0800 988 2881 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm)
