Bridleways and paths across Warwickshire could be changed in the next few years as the county council calls on local residents to share their views.

Warwickshire County Council is looking to create an 'improvement plan' for public rights of way, and has now launched a public consultation.

There is approximately 1,700 miles of public rights of way across Warwickshire, that play a huge part in many people's daily lives, covering both rural and urban areas.

They are important for a variety of reasons, including recreational activities, exploring the beauty of the county, or simply travelling to or from work.

But, it is time for the public's opinion on how well these actually work, and how they vital they are for locals' everyday activities.

Cllr Jan Matecki, portfolio holder for transport and planning said: "Our extensive network of public rights of way are one of the many things that make Warwickshire a great place to live, work and play.

"These vital active travel highways support a wide range of activities from exploring the county's natural wonders to allowing our residents to get to and from workplaces and schools."

The council is calling for people to take part in the consultation to help them put to action what changes might be needed for the pathways - even if you do not actually use them.

For people that use the routes, WCC would like to know about their own experiences on the routes, and how vital they are to their daily lives.

And those that don't use the routes, WCC wants to understand why they will not use the pathways, what prevents them, and what could be done to support them using the paths in the future.

Cllr Matecki added: "We hope as many residents as possible will take the opportunity afforded by this consultation exercise to tell us what they think about the county's public rights of way in order to allow us to prioritise the improvements that will keep them relevant and useful for generations to come."

The consultation closes on Sunday 10 March 2024.
