A provisional design for the new 'Welcome to Kenilworth' signs has been approved by the town council.

Following the twinning with Sicilian seaside town Roccalumera in January the town council committed to replace all six signs marking the edge of Kenilworth.

And following a vote at Kenilworth Town Council's meeting last week, councillors gave approval for a simple design as pictured below.

A discussion was started in February over a possible strapline for Kenilworth – Warwick's signs dub it 'the county town'.

However, members felt that a simple and clear design was more suitable.

Cllr Michael Coker, who had originally suggested the strapline, said: "This is for the long term, so actually something simple that we have got used to and most other people use would be best – so I would go for [option] A."

As many as 15 different designs were brought before the council, ranging in colour, shape and font.

Whilst opinion was split over the use of national flags, the decision was ultimately made to incorporate them into the new signs.

A final designs will now be drawn up by Warwickshire County Council.

The town council hopes to have the six signs replaced in time for the Commonwealth Games this summer.
