The company behind The Kenilworth Hotel and Cocktail Bar has been put into administration, it has been revealed.

A notice on The Gazette has announced that The Kenilworth Boutique Hotel Ltd will be wound up.

Gavin Bates of Smart Business Recovery Ltd has been appointed as the company's liquidator.

A notice posted by founder Darren Insall said: "At a general meeting of the above named company, duly convened and held at 61 Warwick Road, Kenilworth, CV8 1HN on 19 May 2022 at 3.00pm the following resolutions were passed as a special resolution and ordinary resolution respectively:-

"That the company be wound up voluntarily and that Gavin Bates of Smart Business Recovery Limited, The Old Rectory, Main Street, Glenfield, Leicester, LE3 8DG be appointed liquidator of the company."

While the Warwick Road hotel remains open to customers, Kenilworth Nub News reported at the start of July that the venue's Harger Court guest house would be turned back into a four bed home.

The company's second hotel - The Edgbaston - was closed in February 2022, and put up for sale in June.

When the Birmingham-based bar shut its doors, a letter from co-founders Darren and Stuart Insall thanked customers for their support and said the business had been majorly impacted by the pandemic.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the support you have given to our business and our team during the past eight years, we couldn't have achieved what we have without the loyalty of our guests and of course our team.

"Despite our closure, through no fault of our own, having been mandatorily closed for 11 months by the government due to Covid-19, with very little support, then government announcements on the 7 December [2021] which negatively impacted Christmas for most businesses in hospitality, and at such a crucial time for us.

"Then coupled with the very slow return of our corporate guests due to the advisory 'work from home' directive, it's been a tremendously challenging time but we are still very proud of what we have achieved over the years."

Kenilworth Nub News has approached The Kenilworth Boutique Hotel Ltd and Smart Business Recovery Ltd for comment.
