Bike seized after joyriders spotted on Kenilworth Common

A bike has been seized after police were called to deal with joyriders on Kenilworth Common.
On Friday evening (July 3) police were alerted to reports of a "number of off-road bikes being ridden dangerously through the area".
"With the warm, sunny weather attracting many families, dog walkers and other visitors to the woods, there were understandable concerns for public safety," officers said.
Local Safer Neighbourhood Team officers, supported by the Warwickshire Rural Crime Team, attended the area and one off-road bike was seized.
"The rider will also be dealt with for relevant offences," a force statement added.
"Many people are unaware that riding off-road bikes on common land, public open spaces, footpaths and bridleways without lawful authority is an offence under Section 34 of the Road Traffic Act 1988.
"Police also have powers under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 to seize vehicles that are being used in a manner causing alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public.
"We understand the impact that the illegal and anti-social use of off-road bikes has on our communities and will continue to work proactively to identify offenders, seize vehicles where appropriate and keep our public spaces safe for everyone to enjoy."
Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
