A new eco-friendly house could be built in the middle of a Kenilworth residential street, if plans are signed off by council planners.

A planning application has been submitted to Warwick District Council for the eco home on a patch of land on Southbank Road.

If approved, the scheme would see a three-bedroom house built and a single garage demolished to make way for it.

The house would be built to high energy-efficiency standards, with the application saying it would be "EPC A-rated and carbon-positive, producing more clean green energy than it consumes with next to no running costs".

The application continued: "The proposal would be a welcomed addition to the street.

"The design respects other properties along Southbank Road.

"The site can easily accommodate the dwelling and would maintain sufficient separation distances with existing properties, and not result in overlooking or loss of privacy.

"There would be no perceived harm to the conservation area.

"Public benefits would outweigh any perceived harm which include housing delivery and a self-build dwelling."

However, the scheme has not been met as favourably by locals, with 10 objections having already been submitted.

Dr Thomas Wightman wrote: "A two-storey home will cause significant loss of light in our rear garden, as well as overlooking its Eastern aspect and the rear gardens of several houses on Station Road.

"This is a privacy concern for all the families bordering the development.

"The applicants have given selective data to under represent the extent of shadow cast into the centre of our rear garden."

Meanwhile, Stephen Pennison added: "Having looked through the submitted plans and knowing this road and plot very well, I have serious concerns about squeezing a house onto this land.

"My main issues are the impact on the Kenilworth conservation area, highway safety right outside my front door, and the loss of privacy for neighbouring homes."
