Local historical landmark the Berkswell Windmill is set to open to the public on Easter Monday for the first time in two years.

The windmill will be open from 12pm to 4pm and visitors will not need to book in advance.

And the owners of the windmill have said it will reopen on a regular basis again this summer.

In a post on Facebook the owners said: "We are excited to announce that the Friends of the Berkswell Windmill plan to re-open to the public from Easter Monday, 18 April 2022."

The windmill was built in 1826 on the site of a former post mill.

Jeanette McGarry acquired the 19th century four-bladed tower mill back in 2005 and spent over £200,000 restoring it to its former glory with the help of English Heritage after it fell into a state of disrepair.

The maintenance involved continuous limewashing of the interior, dressing of mill stones and painting the sails with the help of a cherry picker to reach the top.

And it took three weeks to touch up the paintwork on the gigantic five tonne sails.
