The charity which helps to maintain the remains of the Augustinian Abbey and Barn Museum in Abbey Fields is appealing to residents to help support vital repair work needed to preserve some of Kenilworth's history.

The Harry Sunley Memorial Project looks after the Grade-I listed 'Tanatra' gatehouse and is currently partway through a project that could see the gatehouse open to visitors.

The project was formed in 2015 from the Kenilworth Abbey Advisory Committee which has looked after the ruins for over 20 years.

In the last five years the project has built a mezzanine floor in the gatehouse as well as shelving to display the many artefacts the group maintains.

The charity, named after the late Harry Sunley FSA - a local expert on the Abbey, relies on donations from local groups, councils, charities and residents.

However, more funds now need to be raised to build a new door and signage for the building, with Warwick District Council and Historic England having to approve all plans before completion.

The charity is asking for direct donations from residents as well as Amazon users to make the most of 'Amazon Smile' to support the project.

Users can select the Harry Sunley Memorial Project to benefit from donations from Amazon every time they shop. This costs the user nothing, but is incredibly beneficial to the charity.

Project fundraising director Mervyn Kimberley said: "If you enjoy living in an historic town such as Kenilworth, or even if you just enjoy old buildings, then please help us to add to that history, donate to our project and you could soon be standing inside our wonderful little gatehouse imagining yourself back in time."

Direct donations can be made to: Barclays Bank; Harry Sunley Memorial Project; 20-48-08; 93100685
