A quick look back at Kenilworth's election history
Seven election hopefuls are vying to become Kenilworth's next MP this week, with locals heading to the polls on Thursday (July 4).
According to Nub News' latest readers' poll Labour's Cat Price is narrow favourite to win the seat, with the Liberal Democrats and Conservatives only trailing narrowly.
With this in mind, we have taken a quick look back at the results the last few times voters have been to the polls.
In November 2019 Sir Jeremy Wright was once again elected as Kenilworth's MP, having held the Kenilworth and Southam seat since the seat was held in 2010.
In fact, you need to go back to before 2005 for the last time the Conservative was not the town's MP.
The 2001 general election was also the last time the town was not represented by the Tories, with Andy King narrowly holding on to the Rugby and Kenilworth seat by just 2,877 votes.
Prior to 1997 when Mr King won the seat, it had been Blue since 1983 with Jim Pawsey winning three consecutive elections in Rugby and Kenilworth.
Four and a half years ago, at the last election, Sir Jeremy took 57.7 per cent of the votes, followed by Richard Dickson (Liberal Democrats) who received 19 per cent.
In 2017 Sir Jeremy won the largest vote share of any of the Kenilworth and Southam elections, taking 60.8 per cent of the votes.
Both Nub News polls have so far predicted a much tighter race between the Conservatives, Liberal Democrats, Labour and Reform this time around.
