The company managing Warwick and Stratford District Council's new three-weekly waste collection service has been announced.

Biffa Waste Services Ltd will collect waste in the district until the contract expires in 2030.

The new south Warwickshire '123+' system will begin in August 2022 with separate weekly food waste collections, fortnightly dry recycling collections and three-weekly residual waste collections.

WDC said the new waste plan aims to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.

Cllr Alan Rhead said Biffa, who operate a recycling depot in Warwick, have "a strong track record" in waste management and "have demonstrated their commitment to improving recycling rates" in the area.

He added: "As part of this new contract, we are also working with our neighbouring councils to utilise the new state of the art material recovery facility currently under construction, which will make a real difference to the recycling capabilities of our region."

The 123+ system is the first collaborative step between WDC and SDC which could see a new 'super council' formed to govern the whole of South Warwickshire.

What is the 123+ service?

  1. Weekly food waste collection using food caddies (a small caddy for inside your property and a larger caddy to use outside and for collection).
  1. Fortnightly recycling collection (a new wheeled bin will be provided for mixed recycling to replace the current red box/bag recycling scheme).
  1. Three-weekly refuse collection (using your existing grey wheeled bin).

+. Fortnightly garden waste collection (using your existing green bin).
