Kenilworth's Sarah-Jane Perry has reached the quarter-finals of the 2022 Commonwealth Games women's singles courtesy of a 3-0 win over Malaysia's Yiwen Chan this evening (July 31).

World number six, Perry came through her round of 16 tie with wins of 11-6, 11-8 and 13-11 to set up a clash against Wales' Emily Whitlock in the last eight.

Having gone two ahead against Chan, Perry looked in danger of losing her first game of the tournament as the Malaysian led her 7-2 in a fiercely-fought third game.

She recovered to clinch the victory in a match which lasted 28 minutes.

Today's results leave Team England with two players left in the women's singles - Georgina Kennedy will face Rachel Arnold of Malaysia in the quarter-finals.

And if she and Perry both win their games tomorrow (Aug 1) they will then face off in the semi-finals.

Silver medalist at Gold Coast in 2018, Perry won her round of 32 game against Jade Pitcairn on Saturday (July 30) 3-0.
