The heavy rain preceding the game resulted in a heavy muddy pitch for Kenilworth to entertain the runaway league leaders Moseley Oak. The resulting game was an entertaining one with Kenilworth performing well in a 29-54 defeat and earning a try bonus point – the first conceded by Moseley Oak this season.

Moseley Oak started well scoring a converted try early but Kenilworth responded with sustained pressure resulting in a successful penalty from winger Dan Ward. Oak came back with a penalty of their own and an unconverted try before more sustained pressure from Kenilworth.

A lineout close to the Moseley Oak line produced a superb rolling maul with Bobby Thompson touching down.

Dan Ward produced a superb conversion from close to the touch-line for a 10-15 score-line. Kenilworth immediately went back on the attack but a loose pass was intercepted for a converted Moseley try under the posts and 10-27.

Kenilworth were still pressing and a possible try was held up. Moseley Oak then scored again, unconverted but Kenilworth closed out the half in great style when a superb Sam Fountaine 50-22 produced a likely score only for the ball to be knocked on.

Moseley then knocked the ball on in their exit and this gave the opportunity for a try for centre Sandeep Dhaliwal following great work from the forwards. Half time score 17-27 with Kenilworth well in the game and taking the game to the league leaders.

Kenilworth started the second half well and exerted pressure on the Moseley line but they responded like true league leaders with a run of scores to make it 17-47 after 58 minutes.

From a kick off, the visitors start another onslaught, picking and driving but the Kenilworth forwards put up a magnificent fight, resulting in a turnover and counter attack, the Kens back-line taking it up to the visitors 22, where the forwards nicked it and picked and drove into the corner.

Another superb Dan Ward conversion brought Kenilworth up to a more respectable 24-47.

Moseley responded once more with a further converted try but in the dying minutes of the game the impressive Kenilworth forwards once again conjured up a rolling mall from a line-out for a final (unconverted) try and a respectable, score-line of 29-54, and an important try bonus point.

It was good to see the Moseley Oak players and supporters staying on in the Kenilworth bar afterwards and to see the game's awards – the Kenilworth 'Napton Cider' Man of the Match being young fly half Aled Balman. There was also a mention for winger Dan Ward, unfortunately playing his last game before joining the Swiss Army.

Next weekend Kenilworth are away at Malvern in the final game of the first half of the season
