Kenilworth Men ended a run of three straight losses with an emphatic five-point win away at Broadstreet.

On a bright and sunny Saturday afternoon, it was Kenilworth playing left to right who scored the first try of the game, with Bobby Thompson on the end of a driving maul after good approach play by firstly the backs and then the heavies.

With the swirling wind at his back, Kenilworth fullback O'Connor added the conversion. Less than five minutes gone, score 0-5.

From the restart, Kenilworth were back on the attack, with Kavanagh solid throughout, taking the ball up to the home side's 10-meter line.

With quick ball and a broken home defence the Kenilworth faithful were looking for the next try, but for an indiscretion in midfield - Freemantle sent for 10-minutes rest for tripping an opponent. Ten minutes gone.

Five minutes later, and with Broadstreet struggling thus far to get out of their own half, successive phases of play culminated in an attacking Kenilworth scrum five meters out.

Boulton, Morris and Payne, supported by the rest of the back drove Broadstreet back over their own line, Thompson in the armchair to score his and Kenilworth's second try of the afternoon. No conversion - 15 minutes on the clock, score 0-10.

The young Broadstreet side were struggling to counter the strong wind and the resolute Kenilworth defence, and it felt like it was only a matter of time until Kenilworth would score again.

With 22 minutes gone, Kenilworth and Thompson were at it again; the former Kens skipper was enjoying his afternoon and was last up with the ball following another rolling maul. Hattrick try for Thompson, no conversion. Score 0-15.

Up to this point in the encounter, the home side had rarely been in the Kenilworth half but as the first 40 wore on, Broadstreet started to put a couple of phases together, and eventually scored their opening and only try of the game. Conversion missed. Score 5-15 with less than 10 to go before halftime.

In the approach play, Kenilworth 8 Thompson received a blow to the head and was sidelined. At the same time, Kenilworth head coach Jon Lowdon took the opportunity to rotate the front row, with the talismanic Boulton off and replaced by Bromfield.

The final play of the half saw O'Connor kick a penalty to keep the scoreboard ticking, half time score 5-18.

The opening moments of the second half were a continuation of the first half, the Blue and Golds in attack and the home side creaking. Broadstreet were caught offside at the breakdown and O'Connor took advantage in kicking the penalty. Score 5-21.

Five minutes later and Kenilworth scored their first try of the second half, Bromfield the scorer of Kenilworth's fourth and bonus point try after a fine break in midfield by Rawlins, today playing in his more familiar position of centre. O'Connor added the conversion. Half an hour to go, score 5-28.

The home side were by now looking increasingly ragged and after several heavy carries and a neat offload in the tackle from Boulton (now back on), it was Kenilworth fly-half Charlie West who scored next with a trademark dart to round the covering defence and dot down to the left of the sticks. Conversion missed. 25 minutes to go, score 5-33.

With 20 minutes of the game remaining, Will Morgan came on for Mark O'Connor at fullback, returning after a few weeks out with injury. It was Morgan next to score, but he missed the opportunity to convert his own try. Score 5-38, 25 minutes left to play.

Kenilworth were now scoring every five minutes, or so it seemed. Mikkel Andresen scored a try of his own having taken possession of the ball around the home 10-meter line to out-pace what was left of the Broadstreet defence. Morgan with the conversion. Score 5-45 with 20 minutes remaining.

When it would have been easier to roll over, credit to Broadstreet who put some good rugby together and took advantage of a couple of missed tackles to score down the Kenilworth right wing. Score 10-45, with ten left to play.

Kenilworth scored two more tries in the last ten minutes. Firstly, West bagged his second try which was converted by Morgan, and then Freemantle finished things off receiving the ball from Kenilworth skipper Cox after a quick tap - again Morgan added the conversion. Final score 10-59.
