A Dan Twigger brace followed by a Louis Beck tap-in were enough for Kenilworth Wardens to brush aside Fillongley in their final preseason game.

After impressing in training, Wardens gave debut starts to Rhys Palmer, Diarmuid Winston and Hayden Twycross.

Fillongley started well with some good patterns of play, using their home pitch well, however without causing trouble for Alex Brown in the Kenilworth goal.

Wardens took the lead on 20 minutes. Louis Beck won the ball back high up the pitch and played it back to player-manager Eamonn Richards to slip a first time pass to captain Dan Twigger who beat two players on the edge of the box before powering the ball into the bottom corner.

On 30 minutes Wardens made four changes, with assistant manager George Ferridge making an instant impact. A long ball forward was excellently won by Twigger, his flick fell to Ferridge on the edge of the box.

He allowed both centre backs and Fillongley's keeper to get close to him before releasing the ball to Twigger who passed into an empty net.

Fillongley's first chance of the game came five minutes later when a cross fell to their striker inside the six yard box, however his effort was excellently blocked by Alex Cockburn, before his second and third attempts were blocked by James Wilding.

A final header was then tamely hit towards Alex Brown for a comfortable save.

On 55 minutes Wardens scored their third. The energetic Beck won the ball back in Fillongley's half and laid it too Richards, for another first time through ball into the path of Ferridge eight yards out. The forward stood up his man before squaring to the on running Beck who out ran his man for an easy tap in from six yards.

Wardens continued to defend excellently to see out the game. In the last minute Alex Bradley intercepted a pass before beating three players and creating a one on one with the keeper, however his attempted chip was saved by the onrushing keeper.

"Fillongley are a good side, moved the ball well and played their pitch well, they will do well in division 1 this year," Richards said after the game.

"In preseason games results don't matter, only thing which matters is getting minutes, building relationships on the pitch, trying out new tactics and assessing players.

"We tried three different formations today and half dozen players whom haven't played first team football before or regularly.

"In every aspect that was a brilliant performance. With all 16 players playing really well.

"Twigger is looking like the guy at the moment, he's turning into a proper leader and frankly unplayable up top. All the lads who came in were excellent too.

"Moving towards start of the season this is as confident as I've felt in preseason."
