Dan Twigger's 70th minute headed goal was enough to salvage an away point for a wasteful Kenilworth Wardens side against AFC Coventry.

Twigger turned in Eamonn Richards' corner to cancel out Coventry's first half goal, whilst Kenilworth rued a succession of missed opportunities.

The away side had dominated the opening proceedings, with chances falling aplenty for Twigger, Sean Povey and Guy Pearson, but not converted.

With Kenilworth unable to capitalise on their dominance the home side took the lead on 30 minutes against the run of play.

A long ball hit into the right channel bounced over the Wardens' defence, siting up nicely for the Coventry winger to hit the ball on the half volley over keeper Andy Whitehouse from 25 yards.

Despite the setback Kenilworth continued to create chances and could have equalised on the stroke of half time.

With Coventry's goalscorer having to go in goal following an injury to their keeper, he produced a fine low save to preserve the host's advantage as he kept out a low Twigger strike on 45 minutes.

The second half was a similar story, with Wardens creating but not getting the ball over the line until Twigger's equaliser.

Both sides also had penalty shouts waved away, whilst a smart block on the six yard line from substitute James Smith on 85 minutes kept the scores level.

Kenilworth then had perhaps the best chance of the game to seal all three points. On 89 minutes Roger Kingston's cross into the Coventry penalty box fell to Sam Taylor six yards out, but he was unable to keep his shot down.

The 1-1 draw leaves Kenilworth Wardens firsts second in the Coventry Alliance Division One after four games.
