Kenilworth Wardens played their first game in over four months today (April 10) as they took to the pitch for the first game in a mini-league series with Folly Lane Reserves, Triumph Athletic Reserves and Christ the King Thirds.

The first instalment say the Wardens line up against Coventry Alliance Division One leaders, and favourites Folly Lane Reserves. The reserves routinely win said division, not being promoted due only to their firsts being in the premier division.

Folly Lane started off the better side, with a high press and a lot of energy. However, Wardens work rate and organisation kept the first 25 minutes tight with no chances to speak of.

Soon after Folly lane made it 1-0 with a perfect ball from the right hand side which was turned in by their number nine.

The division one side then double their lead after some brilliant work from their wide player, dancing past two then three Wardens players in the box to put past Andy Whitehouse in goal.

Wardens immediately hit back when Pearson took the ball past two players before crossing. Due to pressure the of Jack Taylor, the keeper pushed the ball where player-manager Eamonn Richards hammered home from 15 yards out.

The second half started in the same vain, with Wardens sitting deep and frustrating the impressive Folly Lane and hitting on the counter attack. Three times Wardens had chances to equalise, however the Folly Lane keeper kept his side ahead with three good saves.

With 10 minutes left, a defensive mixup let Folly Lane add a third.

Wardens, refusing to give up, continued pushing and immediately hit back with a Guy Pearson goal from a Sam Taylor set piece.

The game ended 3-2, which was a fair reflection of the proceedings. Both Folly Lane and Wardens competed in a high quality game, which was impressive given the four-month absence of football.
