Kenilworth Sporting drew their first ever match in a game they will feel they should have won against Barnt Green Spartak.

Kenilworth went behind midway through the first half to another set piece. Captain Rhys Lyons was judged to have tripped the BGS centre forward and the penalty was given.

Ryan Woodward saved the penalty only for the taker to follow up and tap in. 1-0 BGS

Just before halftime Kenilworth equalised after some neat play down the right from Callum Mack, whose cross found Dave Gbehe who calmly struck his shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner.

Kenilworth came out for the second half a different team, BGS were on the back foot from the whistle.

It seemed to be when not if Kenilworth were going to score but the BGS goal led a charmed life for the whole of the second 45.

The man of the match was undoubtedly the BGS keeper, with save after save, including an outstanding stop to deny Dave Freeman what everyone in the ground thought was a certain goal.

It wasn't going to be Kenilworth's day when Jason Evans stoppage time strike skimmed the outside of the post and rolled wide.

Speaking after the game manager Martin Ascroft added: "We are obviously disappointed as a group but unfortunately goals win games, BGS dug in and deserved that but of luck, their league position is no reflection of the team they are and can be.

"We have a local derby game next Saturday at Coventry Alvis, we will be looking forward to the game and hopefully regaining our composure in front of goal.

"That's six games now where we still haven't conceded a goal from open play, from set pieces only."
