In-form Wardens triumph over Whitnash
By James Smith 13th Oct 2026
Wardens made it three wins out of the last four with a 2-1 win against third place and unbeaten Whitnash.
Two goals from corners either side of a Callum Kidd equaliser were enough to secure all three points for Kenilworth.
Whitnash started better of the two sides with more possession but only able to take shots from the edge of the box, which Kenilworth keeper Tom Day kept out comfortably.
Dylan Wright came close on the counter for the opener, but was well saved by the Whitnash keeper.
On 20 minutes Wardens came close to an opener. Jack Boden's corner was met by captain Dan Twigger, whose volley flew towards the top corner, only an excellent save from the Whitnash keeper pushed it onto the bar.
Whitnash countered immediately, and looked certain to score, only for a last ditch Flynn O'Keefe touch to put the ball out for a corner.
Whitnash did not learn their lesson when 10 minutes later Wardens won another corner. Boden put it again towards Twigger, who was left unmarked to head into the top corner for his sixth goal in the last four matches.
After the restart Wardens looked even more dangerous going forward.
On three occasions, crosses from Boden were found by Twigger; twice he hit the bar and once misses by inches.
On 60 minutes however, Whitnash equalised. A long ball forward from Billy Gatfield was met by their right back, Callum Kidd, who from a tight angle lifted it over Day's head into the bottom corner.
Whitnash pushed for a winner but found themselves behind again on 70 minutes. Another corner from Boden was met by man of the match Luke Hurst who headed into the top corner, for his first Wardens goal and Boden's fourth assist in his last two matches.
As the game ran towards the end, Day pulled off an excellent save with seconds left to ensure the Wardens took the victory.
"We rarely lose when we've got Boden and Twigger playing," Richards said after the game.
"Boden set pieces were the difference today, the quality was excellent.
"We weren't great today, but we did the basics really well.
"Roger was excellent at centre back, a position he's never started in in 20 years of playing men's football.
"And Luke was the best player on the pitch by a mile. Defensively awesome, and then to get the winning goal, perfect. And Tom in goal has been excellent last few weeks, his save in the dying minutes secured us those three points.
"Three wins out of four is good. Momentum is with us at the moment, squad is strong and deep. Hopefully keep cracking on."
