As the second national lockdown ended this week Kenilworth Wardens FC finished their lockdown running competition with over 1,500 miles covered between then.

Whilst not allowed on the pitch during November, the men's football team at Kenilworth Wardens kept on top of their physical and mental sharpness by hosting a virtual running competition across the four weeks of the lockdown.

Prizes were awarded for distance covered as well as fastest times.

In all, 24 different runners took part, with seven of them tipping over the 100 mile mark.

Winning the competition were the incredible Richard Ward and Richard Hales, who despite having a combined age of over 100, ran 183.15 miles each in the 28-day competition.

Daniel Griffith took third place with an excellent 150 miles, which is even more impressive considering Dan had not really run before this competition.

In the prize for the quickest 10km, Lewis Barge won with a really impressive time of 40:47.

All the winnings from the competition have been split between the JDRF (diabetes) charity and Movember.

JDRF has a special connection with club captain Tom Griffith, who inspired several people to run by offering to make a donation to the charity every person who ran.

Andy Legg also deserves a special mention, not only for sporting a questionable moustache to raise money for charity, but also for running a marathon on his own to raise money for it as well.

Organiser of the competition Eamonn Richards explained "it was once again an incredible effort from the lads in lockdown two. Doesn't really matter if you ran one mile or 100 miles, the important thing was being active, getting busy and feeling connected during a time it's easy to feel isolated and suffer with your mental health.

"From a personal point of view I was COVID-positive and self isolating for the first week of this competition and the positivity from the lads on the group kept me going until I could leave the house."
