Kenilworth Rugby Club has unveiled a new club badge to bring the design into the digital age.

Created by local company Rapport Design, the new badge has retained the key image of Kenilworth Castle whilst bringing a new, simplified layout.

The new badge comes as the club prepares for a new season on the pitch and new developments off the field in the form of its new ground.

The previous design had been in consistent use since 2006 but presented several challenges when used on the club's social media due to the detailed nature of its traditional elements.

Although the new badge is simplified, it retains the spirit and heart of those preceding it, as well as some enhancements.

For example the badge now includes the year the club was formed - 1924.

Kenilworth RFC's chairman Johnny Marsh has welcomed the refreshed design and its retention of the club's heritage.

He said: "As a club we are very progressive in our approach, looking forward with a healthy appreciation of what has come before.

"We've retained the non-negotiables like the castle and mounds and of course our name, as well as bringing in other elements of our identity for the first time with the inclusion of 1924."

Speaking on why the decision to update the badge was taken, Johnny added: "The world has changed, and all organisations need to be much more digitally focused. Everyone is watching things on their phones - the way clubs interact with their fans is through social media.

"It's not that the old design was bad, it's just that the world has changed, it's progressed and gone digital. Going forward I am sure it will become a huge part of Kenilworth's future success."

After over a year of cancelled matches due to the pandemic, the club is also looking forward to getting back to competitive fixtures this September.

The men's first XV will host Whitchurch on Saturday, September 4 in the opening game of the Midlands Division One Season.
