Having just celebrated its first anniversary, a local gin bar is set to expand its offering by launching gift sets of its pick 'n' mix flavours.

That Gin Company first opened a bar in Swan Street last year bringing a huge selection of branded gins to the people of Warwick.

But the bar has also become well known for its own range of bespoke, bold gin flavours, all handcrafted on site.

Flavours ranged from juniper and floral varieties through to less conventional offerings including black pepper and cardamom, black forest gateau and biscoffi.

We were given a sample of one of the gin gifts sets to try for ourselves, ahead of the new website going live soon.

The flavours are available in 50ml, 250ml and 500ml bottles (image by Everybody Smile Photography)

The set included three 250ml flavoured gins, presented neatly in simple, elegant presentation box.

As the photographs show, each cork-stopped bottle has been hand-labelled, again with a simple design which gives an easy elegance to the product.

Each has a handwritten tag with the date of bottling written on it - a simple gesture but one which shows the level of care and attention to detail put into every bottle.

And as the packaging states, each are hand distilled in limited editions batches of just 100, so you get the sense that product has been made with real passion and care.

The three flavours we were given were cherry bakewell, jalapeno and pineapple - all, deliberately, are very bold.

The cherry bakewell comes with a big hit of almond, but the sweetness from the cherry also comes through, giving a lovely balance.

As soon as you open the pineapple there is no mistaking the flavour, as you are presented with the bold citrus aroma. Very sweet in taste, it slips down easily, and you would be forgiven for having a few glasses before realising how much you had had to drink!

Then came the jalapeno - perhaps the wild card of the three. But it did not disappoint. While clearly a unique flavour, the spiciness was not overpowering - even when drunk neat - and you were still able to enjoy the flavour of the drink without being overpowered.

While it might not perhaps be an every-day staple, that is what the gift sets are all about in my eyes.

To be able to purchase three 200ml bottles gives you the chance to take a punt and try something different, something out of your comfort zone, without having to worry about having loads leftover if it isn't to your personal taste.

That makes the sets ideal both for gin lovers, as they will be guaranteed to be able to sample something different, and also for those who don't really know what they actually like.

That said, beyond the three in the set we were sent, I have also tried other flavours at the Swan Street bar and am yet to find one that I did not enjoy!

And with such a large of flavours available, being able to mix and match in a box of three is perfect if you want to take home an eclectic range of flavours and tastes.

Sets are available from the Swan Street bar, and customers can also simply purchase their chosen flavours in 50ml, 200ml and 500ml - what's not to like!
