Work begins on new supermarket at housing estate

Contractors are now on site building a new local at a new build housing estate in Westwood Heath.
Warwick District Council signed off a fresh planning application for the Sainsbury's Local store off Westwood Heath Road which will sit next to the 425 new homes.
Permission for the shop was first granted in 2018 alongside the rest of the development, but a new application had to be submitted as the supermarket had not been built quick enough.

Construction on the houses is well underway, with many already occupied.
The application did not say which supermarket would operate the shop, but Sainsbury's was granted an alcohol licence for the site by the council.
Signs next to the building work state it will be a Sainsbury's Local.
Rossway Ltd is on site constructing the new store.

Signing off on the latest application, council planners said: "The design, scale and layout of the store is broadly in accordance with the approved Design Code for the Westwood Heath development and the proposed materials are considered appropriate for the type of store proposed.
"No visual harm is considered to arise to the character of the area.
"Its impact on residential amenity is considered acceptable; opening and delivery hours are to be restricted by condition and an acoustic fence around the delivery yard would further mitigate any impacts on the nearest neighbouring properties."

Plans show the 0.26 hectare site will have a 4200sqft convenience store built, with 17 car parking spaces including one EV charging spot.
Access will come from Bockendon Road, while a separate cycle path is also included, as well as four covered bike racks.
An ATM will also be provided on site.
"Adequate levels of parking are provided having regard to the scale and nature of this being a local convenience store primarily intended for use by residents of the new development as well as existing neighbours in the immediate vicinity," the council report continued.
