West Midlands Railway has warned passengers of more short-notice cancellations of trains through Kenilworth railway station.

WMR has said that increasing numbers of staff are having to isolate, meaning that services must be cancelled at the last minute.

The number of staff self-isolating has quadrupled in recent weeks according to the company.

Before the pandemic, the operator recruited over 100 new drivers but training has also been delayed due to Covid restrictions. The company now estimates it will take up to a year before all of its new train crew are qualified.

Having partially restarted in April, the service through Kenilworth station has remained inconsistent, a recurring criticism of the pre-Covid situation.

The station is currently served by a mixture of trains and a replacement bus service.

WMR customer experience director Jonny Wiseman said: "We are keeping up the extra high standards of cleaning on our trains and stations that we implemented at the start of the pandemic.

"Even though Covid restrictions are easing from Monday, the message is, in crowded spaces, wear a face covering out of respect for others."
