Kenilworth firefighters were among 10 local crews called to a fire at a recycling centre in Ettington.

Thick black smoke was seen coming from the Pure Recycling Limited warehouse at around 4pm yesterday (July 20).

The fire had engulfed the whole building and spread into a nearby field.

As crews tackled the blaze in "extreme heat" a water carrier was sent from Kenilworth Fire Station due to low water supplies near the fire.

A Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Due to the thick smoke coming from the incident, local residents are being asked to shut all windows and doors."

Whilst the fire was stabilised, crews remained overnight to monitor the fire. Two engines are still onsite in Ettington this morning as they damp down and put out small pockets of fire before they can spread.

WFRS added: "A structural engineer is in attendance to check the safety of the building. We will remain onsite until the fire is completely out."
