A local lodge retreat has received a major award from Visit England, one of the leading quality assessment groups for the UK tourism industry.

One of three new Darwin Escapes resorts to earn the recognition, Stratford-upon-Avon Lodge Retreat has been named a 'Five-Star Gold' venue, the highest accolade given by Visit England.

Set deep in the heart of Warwickshire, with the Stratford Armouries Museum on-site and minutes from the birthplace of William Shakespeare, Pathlow is one of 24 resorts and three golf venues in the company's portfolio.

The 44 luxury lodges offering an "exciting-yet-relaxed opportunity" for self-catering holidays with fully fitted and modern kitchens, floor-to-ceiling windows, large dining and living areas and expansive decking.

Visit England, which judges parks on cleanliness, facilities, service and more, makes visits to sites across the country throughout the year and was particularly impressed with the high standard of the lodges, as well as the décor and location of the Stratford-Upon-Avon Lodge Retreat.

Ben Scholes, general manager of the resort, said: "The award is absolutely fantastic news and a real tribute to the team who've worked really hard to enhance the resort since it opened.

"All of the team are exceptionally proud of the site at Stratford-upon-Avon Lodge Retreat."

Lindsey Esse, managing director of Darwin Escapes, said: "Stratford-upon-Avon Lodge Retreat is the latest of our resorts to have received this fantastic award from Visit England and it is a true testament to the hardworking and dedicated ambassadors we have within our team at Darwin Escapes"
