Volunteers braved the wet weather on Sunday (March 10) to move some of the flowers from Talisman Square to the new Kenilworth School on Glasshouse Lane.

Students from the school's eco committee launched an urgent appeal for compost last week, as sixth formers looked to provide a new home for some of the plants set to be displaced from the town centre.

The plea for local support came as community group Friends of Talisman Square (FoTS) continues to look for new places for the greenery, having been told by the square's owners to move them.

Despite plans to redevelop the town centre car park into flats and more shops being rejected last year, developer Cobalt Estate has said all the plants need to be removed by the end of March.

Following a number of donations, and with the help of volunteers, the students helped to plant many of the flowers in the raised beds between the wings of the new school on Sunday.

"Despite the rain, many intrepid Kenilworthians braved the weather to move the planting to the site," the committee told Nub News.

"Organised by Catherine Dallaway of Friends of Talisman Square, the mission was successful and with the help of many volunteers - such as Fern Arnold at Bee Friendly Kenilworth - the beds look wonderful.

"We would like to thank: Richard Jones at Jones Family Jewellers, the KATA allotment association and chair Pete Hayes, the geography department at Kenilworth School and the residents of Kenilworth for coming together to support a much-loved project."

Kenilworth Town Council has recently pledged to spend £3,500 on new planters and soil to have some of the plants moved to Station Road.
