Following the news that work will start again on the swimming pools in Abbey Fields, we have republished our article from last summer about the discoveries found in the park.

A virtual reality firm has created an incredible interactive image of the archaeological remains discovered in Abbey Fields.

More and more remains have been found in the Kenilworth park over the past few months as AR Demolition has knocked down the old swimming pools to make way for a new leisure centre.

While the discoveries have halted progress at the site, RiVR (Reality in Virtual Reality) - a cutting-edge virtual reality firm specializing in photogrammetry - was brought in to document the area.

The company has worked with Historic England and Archaeology Warwickshire to develop a clear idea of the extent of the ruins.

And the Southam-based firm has now released its interactive model of the site, showing off in great detail the discoveries.

RiVR was launched by brothers Alex and Joe Harvey, who grew up in Warwick where they have already helped run local history projects.

"In collaboration with Ross and Joe, I had the opportunity to work behind the scenes on this incredible project," Alex said.

"The video I've posted reveals an in-depth view of the process of capturing every detail of the historical ruins at Abbey Fields.

"The scanning process by RiVR has enabled us to digitally preserve and analyse the intricate designs, textures, and structures of what appears to be monastic buildings."

"The implications of this discovery go beyond merely finding ancient structures; it could potentially provide an amazing insight into the history and everyday life of this monastic site," Alex added.

"As the process of building the new multi-million pound swimming centre advances, an engaging relationship between the past and present is unfolding.

"The collaboration with Archaeology Warwickshire, the firm that carried out the investigation with the demolition of the previous pool, proved to be pivotal.

"The use of RiVR's state-of-the-art photogrammetry technology took this discovery to a new level. It illustrates how modern technology can enhance our understanding and appreciation of historical sites."

Alex also thanked programme manager Padraig Herlihy for giving them access to the site.
